Tech Update: Honda Tier Three Heads

With the production of the Honda Tier Three motors and parts for the GX-120 and the GX-160 there have been questions of what the part numbers are and if they are legal for use.

RE: HONDA 120 & 160 Heads

Part # 12210-ZH7-415 is the 120 Head
Part # 12210-ZH8-415 is the 160 Head

Both are tier 3 heads AND ARE LEGAL TO RUN ON THE OLD MOTORS. (that was a production change a little over a year ago and there just showing up now)

This does not include the Tier Three pistons or rings.  You cannot use the new pistons or rings in the old motors.  Anyone caught using the new pistons and rings will be DQ'd with a suspension of six months.

Tech Update: World Formula

To All Current and Future Owners of Briggs World Formula Engines

Currently Briggs has made some changes to the World Formula Engines that will affect the Tech manual and the performance of the engine.  Briggs is at the end of their homologation with IKF on Jan.1, 2007.  Therefore Briggs has made some significant changes that will have an impact on the W/F engines in our sport.  There is a new Block that has a vertical rib up the cylinder, an Aluminum Flywheel that will replace the current cast iron unit that will be about 3 Lbs. lighter. Also a new PVL coil, with a built in Rev Limiter.  This will come as a kit, which will prevent anyone from by passing the limiter thus making it fairer and easier to tech.  Also a new Heat Dispenser you can install in the head in the #4 bolt hole by drilling and tapping with a 7/16th tap.  Or you can get a new head with it already done.  This is suppose to help prevent over heating by taking about 60degrees out of that area in the head which should solve the head gasket blowing problem.  Finally a New Fire-ring Head Gasket is also part of the upgrade that will prevent blown head gaskets in the engine.  These parts are available at some Briggs Motor sports dealers such as Fastermotors.net These enhancements will also be standard on all new engines built After the current supply is exhausted.

To keep the class on the same level QMA is currently at the moment NOT Allowing these upgrades until everyone can get these and have time to install them and to incorporate these into the W/F Tech manual.  Typically any tech changes and rule changes take effect April 1 so to keep everyone informed of the Mandatory changes these items will be allowed and affected at that time (April 1,2007).  (NOTE: The Block is Not Mandatory)   With most of the racing now dormant this will give ample time to purchase the items and install them before most clubs stat their racing season.

Any further information will be posted at www.quartermidgets.org . If you have any questions please ask your local club or regional tech person.  Below is the Part numbers for the upgrades.
